Description

Summary

I wanted a simple no-frills container to store a variety of 3D printing supplies. I didn’t need a snap-on or locking lid because I don’t intend to transport it and therefore do not worry about the lid falling off. There are many excellent models for containers out there, but many of them had thicker walls than I needed. I wanted to maximize size and minimize filament usage, so I made my own simple box and lid.

The base of the box measures 200x100 mm on the exterior. Because the walls are 2 mm thick, the internal area of the base is 196x96 mm. The exterior height is 78 mm, and because the base is 2 mm tall, the interior height is 76 mm.

The lid has an area of 200x100 mm and adds 2 mm to the overall height (80 mm) of the container. It also features a guide for lid placement that is recessed by 2 mm into the box, so that reduces the interior height to 74 mm around the 2 mm perimeter, while the rest of the box retains its internal height of 76 mm. I added 0.2 mm tolerance around the guide, so in theory you should not have to apply any force to get the lid to rest on the box.

All corners of the box and lid are filleted to give the edges a smooth curved appearance and supposedly add a little bit of strength.
