Description

As my initial stargate project (this was my very first upload here some months ago!) was cloned somehow I decided to also add an improved V2 with some modifications.

What changed:

  • the housing is smaller → less filament usage / less space usage!
  • the gate holders are optimized → may have a look to the second video! assembly of the gates and the holders is now really really easy!
  • plug & play with WLED → you can use any board you like. is used this one → https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0CLGTSH3N?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

What do you need:

The filament I used:

Assembly (whole video guided assembly divided in parts):

Solder the Stripes:

Assemble the Gates & HOW TO AVOID PITFALLS!!

Flash WLED to ESP8266 or others:

Glue the Board to the Housing:

Assembly of → light shields, diffusors, stripe, gates & housing:

Configuring WLED:

If I forgot anything or if you experience any problems just write me :)

BR,

B@sti

Fantastic model. I modified a lot for my personal use, and added a bunch of different other models.

very impressive! I already know this from the "stargateproject" (https://thestargateproject.com/build-a-stargate-and-dhd-3d-printed/). Can you add a material list for the infinity mirror? I already tried this myself with my very first stargate lamp. but it wasn't so nice as yours..

Basically, I ordered a 179mm acrylic mirror and a matching 179mm acrylic clear circle. Cost ~19€ shipped in germany. Added some 7€ sun reflector sheet off amazon on the clear circle. That's pretty much all there is to it. The LEDs are WS2812b from aliexpress, 144 LED/m (used 82 in total).

I see. I tried it with a sun reflector foil as well but this wasn't working so good with my printed transparent parts. so it's maybe the acryl. I will try that as soon as I finished my other ongoing projects :P have fun with the stargate!!

Really pretty model. My wife and I are big Stargate fans so this was a must do! Tolerances were crazy tight, but otherwise no issues at all. Thank for uploading!

this looks amazing 🤗 thx for sharing! did you brush the gate? it looks a bit darker compared to the gif. which tolerances do you mean exactly - the ones from the red activators or the gate holders? I wanted to improve the tolerances for the activators but recognized that the walls were that thin that they were not even sliced (I did not checked the "print thin walls" box). I had it on my todo list but it seems I forgot to fix it 🙈 Nevertheless it's working but it makes it a bit more challenging 😋

I did do a quick and dirty wash of the gate to give it that ancient weathered look. I had a heck of a time getting both the stand seated and the two halves of the gate together with the LEDs I was able to source. I ended up gluing the gate together to make it hold. The activators slipped on like a glove. Thanks again for the design!

you're welcome :) thx for your response! is there any generic tutorial for giving it that ancient look? ..because I can't imagine what you did exactly :P yep - I also needed some tries (see the video) to completely get it together but in the end it worked :)

I finally done it! I'm in love with it haha awesome design! Just a little of rework with the tolerances to get everything to fit, specially with the LEDs haha but everything went perfect at the end, 10/10 <3

yehaaa :) this looks like an exact clone of mine :) very cool!! hehe - jep - the LEDs don't make fun. when I was recording that video it took more than 10 minutes because it was always slipping out again :P what exactly did you have to rework? I can try to improve this. thx for posting and voting!

Great model! I sliced mine up a bit and modified it with some LEDs and Neopixel sticks for the The Smuggler's Room challenge of remaking a flux capacitor in another franchise.

This was super fun to make and a beautiful design but man was it frustrating at times. The Stargate is extreme fragile and many of the small parts broke off multiple times during assembly. The tolerances of the base are too tight. Most of my build is held together by glue at this point. Still, I think it has the potential to be great!

I'm sorry to hear that some of the parts were broken. Have you calibrated your printer before? The tolerances are tight - yes. ..but it really depens on whether your printer / filament is calibrated. In the end you finished it (printing is sometimes not as easy). Have fun with your new stargate and thank you for your vote :)
