Description

About

This is a silica gel box for about 100 g of silica gel. The silica gel you use should be 2 mm in diameter or larger. The box has a lid that slides in place and it is secured with a single M3 head cap bolt (6 to 12 mm bolts will fit).

I keep one of these in each of my dry boxes that hold about 8 spools of filament, it keeps the humidity down and the prints are improved. The silica gel box is quite sturdy with 3 mm walls and could be made a little thinner if you want to save some filament, I will upload the step files so you can edit the design easliy. A complete (empty) box with lid is around 80 g.

Threaded or heated insert?

I've uploaded two versions: One version is designed for a heated M3 insert, I use the Trianglelab inserts linked below under BOM myself.

The other version is threaded where you just need to screw in an M3 bolt, it's natually not as strong but is fine as long as you don't overtighten it.

BOM - Bill of Materials

You need some head cap allen bolts and some brass inserts. I use these:

You also need some Silica gel beads. I recommend these that change colour from blue to pink so you know when to reactivate/dry them:

Notes:

Just print it. No supports are needed. The lid can be printed both normally and upside down depending on which finish you want, it can look quite nice printed upside down if you're printing on glass for example or on the textured side of the awesome Energetic PEI sheet.

It's available for most printers.
