Description
HPE Gen 10 (G10) drive caddy for SFF (2.5") disks.
I recently bought an HPE DL380 G10 server, and didn't want to pay $20/caddy to add drives to my server. After a couple revisions, I arrived at this model.
- Screwless design: The caddy uses 3d printed tabs to hold the drive in place. This isn't great for keeping the drive in the caddy, but it can't slip out as long as the caddy & drive is installed into a server
- Missing drive lights: The HPE Gen 10 caddies actually have the drive leds built into the caddy, and a set of electrical connections at the rear to control the leds. AFAIK, the drives work just fine even if the drive leds are disconnected, although it might make it harder to identify specific drives.
- Missing lock: The HPE caddies have a lever and tab that locks the drive into the server. I've found that the friction between this model and drive cage is sufficient to keep them in place. I suspect they will wear out over fewer insertion/removal cycles, but I don't plan to install/remove drives very often.
