Description

Add to your collection a marvel of flight, the elusive YF-23 “Black Widow II”!

The YF-23, nicknamed the “Black Widow II”, is considered to be one of the greatest fighter jets to have never entered production. The twin-engine aircraft was a revolution in engineering, possessing unique features like the V-shaped “ruddervators” at the rear of the plane.

A favorite platform of speculation for aircraft enthusiasts, the YF-23 was designed by Northrop Grumman and McDonald Douglas to compete in the U.S. Air Force Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) competition to choose the future of U.S. fighter aircraft. Despite demonstrating superior speed and stealth, the YF-23 lost the Air Force selection to the more maneuverable YF-22, later the F-22 Raptor.

The YF-23 kit model is designed to fit perfectly in a collection with the other brilliantly designed aircraft kits created by Makers World creators. The design is the first in my proposed Revenant Series, meant to highlight exceptional aircraft with limited or no production run. If you like the design and would like to see more aircraft added to the series, please be sure to add a like!

The model in the print profile is approximately 1:100th scale.

Printing Tips:

  • No supports required, the design is ready to print as-is.
  • When scaling the design be aware that a smaller nozzle may be needed to get good clarity on the insignia.
  • Some light sanding of connecting pieces may be required for a good fit depending on the precision of your printer.

Materials used in the pictures are as follows:

  • Bambu Labs PLA – Black
  • Bambu Labs PLA – Jade White
  • Bambu Labs PLA – Dark Grey
  • Hatchbox 3D PLA – Navy Blue

Assembly:

  1. Remove all parts from the print pad.
  2. Press fit the 3 rectangular connectors into the top half of the aircraft.
  3. Align the slots of bottom half of the aircraft with the connectors, press fit.
  4. Carefully fit the tail fins into the slots on the rear of the model.
  5. Attach the support column to the nameplate base.
  6. Attach the aircraft to the base via the slot in the base of the plane.
