Description

A battle damaged Spartan helmet based on the The 300 movie

Sizes:

The movie prop dimensions are: 280 mm x 200 mm x 260 mm.

I've made a few different size profiles:

Small is good for a desk decoration piece.
Large fills the plate of a x1/a1/p1 256mm printer
Xlarge is the full size of the movie helmets at 280mm tall, only fits on the 320mm h2/a2 printers

XXlarge biggest helmet at 322mm tall, only fits on the 320mm h2/a2 printers

Paint guide:

I used some filler primer to fill in the layer lines and give me a black base to paint:
RUST-OLEUM Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray Primer Flat Black

Before and after the filler primer

For the main colour I used this paint, which leaves a very interesting and antique looking hammered texture. Make sure to follow the can instructions well to get the best finish from it:

TREMCLAD Hammered Copper Finish

This is the hammered copper look that the paint leaves behind. Looks cool but is too glossy to look “antique”, so we'll fix that next.

I knocked the gloss back with a coat of:

Krylon Fusion Satin Clear

I then did some weathering, by applying this Citadel black wash colour. I applied it with a brush wherever parts of the helmet meet and dirt would accumulate in real life, or where there were big dents and scratches, I'd let it dry for 30 seconds or so and wipe the paint away with a sponge. This would break up the paint and make it look more like dirt than a dark layer of black paint.

Citadel Shade Nuln Oil

And this was the final look after a few passes with the black wash.
