Bill of Materials
Description
Normally, you should be scared when seeing a blue shell - especially in first place. But this maglev blue shell that I made surely wont attack you!
This project takes the most infamous item from Mario Kart and turns it into a floating display piece using the Bambu Lab Magnetic Levitation DIY Kit. The shell hovers in mid-air, showing off both the classic design and the cool effect of magnetic levitation.

- Pipe Base for the Kit (shared as another print profile by @PaoloBoniDesign)
- Filament Colors:
- Blue (shell)
- White (wings)
- Beige (underside – I used brown)
- Black (optional – to close up the bottom shell)
Assembly Instructions
- Take the magnet out of its original casing.
- Put the spacer ring onto the magnet with a tight fit.
- Place the coil underneath the spacer.
- Click it all into the bottom shell together.
- Assemble the top part of the shell:
- Snap the white ring onto the bottom section.
- Glue the spikes into the blue shell.
- Attach the blue shell onto the white ring.
- Install the wings.
⚠️ Important Note: Proper balance is crucial for stable levitation.
- The white ring has room for 3 marbles, and one extra marble can be placed inside a cone. These keep the shell from tilting.
- Using 3 marbles in the ring is usually enough; the cone marble is optional for extra balance.
- The wings must be printed with only 5% infill. This ensures they stay lightweight and improve the overall weight distribution of the shell.
Getting the shell to levitate can be tricky at first. Lower it slowly, and if it doesn’t hover right away, try again. With a little patience, it will float perfectly.
⸻
This Blue Shell won’t chase you down – it’ll just float calmly in place. ✨
