Description

🗝️ KeySlide – Modular Sliding Key Holder

After a lot of trial and error (I went through more than a dozen prototypes 😅), I’m excited to finally share the KeySlide – a modular key cover with a smooth sliding mechanism.

Why KeySlide?

  • Keeps your key protected and silent in your pocket.
  • Sliding action with a original mechanism – no springs, fully 3D-printed.
  • Modular side plates – you can customize the look, change colors or even design your own styles.
  • Compact, pocket-friendly design inspired by USB drives.

How it works:

  • Push the top slider with your thumb → key smoothly slides out.
  • The key locks in place so it doesn’t wobble.
  • Slide back → it hides neatly inside the shell.

Assembly: (Photo guide in documentation)

  • No screws or extra parts needed – it prints in just a few pieces and snaps together.
  • Designed to be easy to print without supports.
  • Best results with a 0.2 mm nozzle for precision.

Prototyping journey:
This design didn’t happen overnight – I tested a bunch of different locking systems: spring-loaded, magnets, even a friction-fit version. Most of them were annoying to use. Through this process of experimenting and failing forward, the current lock system was born – reliable, simple, and easy to print. I encourage you to use mine original bow looking spring mechanism.

Community & Remixing:
I can’t wait to see your custom designs for the modular plates! 🎨
Feel free to remix, tweak, or add your own style – and please share photos of your prints, especially if you try out different texture build plates (satin, PEI, carbon, whatever you’ve got).

Backstory:
I was tired of my key scratching my phone and jingling in my pocket. At first, I hacked together a simple cover, but it either broke too easily or was uncomfortable. After printing and testing around 15 different prototypes (and breaking a few 😅), I ended up with this final design – a balance between durability, ease of use, and style.

What’s included:

  • STL files for the base body, slider, and modular plates.
  • Photos of real prints + a short demo video showing how it works.
