The curious discards from the Bambu 3D printer, left unattended, will litter your desk or floor. Here is yet another "poop chute" to divert the filament effluent into an adjacent receptacle.

What's different with this design is that the poop chute feeds to the right side of the 3D printer. The chute drop-off angle is restricted by a couple of factors. First, the poop portal height, the second is the chute span distance to the printer’s right side. The chute path is further hindered by the power switch/power socket in that area.

To avoid the power switch/socket, the chute drop-off angle is reduced to about 15 degrees, hence some "poop" may not roll away as well as can be achieved for a left-handed chute (around 30 degrees drop-off), but if that's all your 3D printer set-up can work with, here's an approach.
My design consists of two parts, a chute and a bin or "poop tray". The chute catches the filament waste and diverts it into an easier to get to small bin. The design aims to be minimal in print material, yet functional.
ASSEMBLY
The chute secures to the back of the Bambu printer via the existing 3mm self-tapping screw. The screw should be enough to retain the chute in position. Otherwise, double sided tape can assist. The bin size is 100mm wide and sits freely at the base of the chute and captures the waste.

PRINTING INFORMATION
My print is made in 1.75mm Bambu PLA Black filament, with 0.2mm layer height and 15% infill on a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon printer. The chute is made to fit a 256x256mm print bed, but only just! Print supports are not required.
Both the print profile and the individual STL files are included for download.
Q&A
Q: Poop sometimes builds up in the chute, instead of sliding down into the bin. Why? A: Sadly, due to the distance the chute has to span and the poop exit height, there are real limitations on chute drop-off angle. I have explored a modified design that routes the chute away from the power switch. This alternative route creates a drop-off close to 17 degrees (from 15 degrees) and a longer chute. Unfortunately, an insignificant improvement. So, it's back to elevating the printer or shortening the chute to get a better drop-off angle. Neither of these options would be desirable for most people.
Due to the poop exit portal position, any increase in chute span length will mean that the chute will not fit on a standard P1/X1 build plate as a single piece. In other words, there are complications and trade-offs to significantly increasing the chute drop-off. |
