Description
My good friend in Hawaii asked if I could make a model of the Kilauea Lighthouse for him and this is the result. We both have P1S printers which made transferring and printing files very easy. If you wish to build one then you will need an LED lamp kit, alternatives on Amazon have found to also work. The model shown is printed in PLA Matte with the glass in PETG. All parts are push-fit, they do not inter-lock but no glue is needed. Not suitable for children as it contains small parts.
Printing: The parts are pre-fixed with the filament colour. Both tower parts need to be printed with tree supports, nothing else needs supports. All parts are printed at normal 0.2mm layer height, except the handrail and grill which were printed at 0.12mm fine. The Tower Top should be printed inverted with the largest surface on the bed. The handrail is also printed inverted. Small items like door and windows can be printed flat and cloned. The main white tower is the longest item to print at 6 hours.
Assembly: It should be obvious how it all goes together. The LED lamp is inserted from the bottom and held with a cover, there are two exits for the cable at the rear of the main tower, just choose one. Small parts like the windows, doors, grill and entrance are a firm push fit and require you to align carefully when inserting. The windows contain a grey background and glass before the red frame. Remove the tree supports around the door carefully as the grey fittings are a tight fit so they don't fall off.
I enjoyed designing the model for my friend and building one myself. If you decide you need one for your office desk, then I hope you enjoy the build process also.
