Description

Aelwyn – Tapered Bore Low D Whistle | Thin-Wall Version

Crafted for storytellers, bards, and dreamers.

Introducing Aelwyn, a light and lyrical Low D whistle crafted for sensitivity, response, and elegance. Her name, meaning “bright melody” or “fair wind”, reflects the instrument’s airy, flowing voice. Like her sister Naeris, Aelwyn carries her name engraved in Elvish script on the back, adding a magical signature to her presence.

🌬️ Features:

  • Tapered Bore Design: Ensures excellent tuning and a smooth transition across octaves, even into the upper register.
  • Thin-Wall Construction: Results in a lighter whistle with a freer, faster breath response—perfect for players who enjoy a more nimble and expressive feel.
  • Effortless to Play: The responsive design supports a dynamic playing style, from soft, breathy notes to bright, clear highs.

🎶 Fingering & Tuning:

  • Includes a comprehensive fingering chart for all notes.
  • The C natural uses a carefully chosen alternative fingering to achieve precise tuning, solving one of the most common intonation issues in Low D whistles.

💫 Prefer more weight and punch?

Explore Naeris, Aelwyn’s thick-wall sister model, built for a richer, more focused tone and firmer resistance under the fingers and breath. Both whistles share the same bore profile and core tuning but offer distinct playing experiences.

Light, expressive, and full of charm, Aelwyn is a joy to play—whether you're crafting gentle airs or dancing reels. She's the result of countless hours of design and refinement, now ready to sing in your hands.

Assembly is simple: just wrap the tenons with PTFE (Teflon) tape for a snug, adjustable fit. Painter’s tape can also be used, though it may slide more easily. No other preparation is needed—just wrap, adjust, and play.

a fingering chart is available is provided in the documentation. Notably, the C natural is played slightly differently than on most whistles, but when fingered as described, it delivers excellent tuning accuracy, a clear step up from standard intonation issues.

Each "perfect" whistle is the result of many prototypes, experiments, and adjustments, which often means a good amount of wasted plastic along the way.
