Description
Hurricane Katrina was one of the deadliest and most destructive hurricanes in U.S. history, striking the Gulf Coast in August 2005. It made landfall as a Category 3 storm, causing catastrophic flooding, especially in New Orleans after levee failures. The disaster claimed more than 1,800 lives, displaced hundreds of thousands, and left behind tens of billions of dollars in damage. Katrina highlighted serious challenges in disaster preparedness and response, leaving a lasting impact on policy, infrastructure, and the communities it devastated.
