Description

I made this as a feeder for my panther chameleon. This allows bugs to crawl around a vertical space, while containing them somewhat. I had to experiment with colors a bit as my chamaleon would not eat off the blue one I made at first. Green/brown to simulate foilage seems to be the best.

INSTRUCTIONS

For mounting on the cage I used 3M removeable velcro tape. For screen cages you might have to get a bit creative, but you could screw into the model towards the top.

The rectangle model on the plate is the backboard to allow the bugs to climb. Superglue it or tape it to the inside of the model to give a rough surface for the insects to grab onto. I have it set to lightning infill for the cool organic pattern, but feel free to change to grid infill on the rectangle if it gives any issues.

Drainage holes are present, but need a bit of water pressure to actually drain. Feel free to drill holes out larger if your feeders will not slip through.

Great design. Minor flaws, but probably because I printed in PLA and didn't adjust the slicer settings. Overall, I am really pleased!

Thanks! Any chance you could post a picture of how it turned out? Would love to see the other prints, this was my first model that I made!

I am working on printing it again using silk PLA with the hope that the smoother filament will help prevent the bugs from climbing. I used matte the first time around and the roaches climbed right up the front of the box and onto my counter LOL! I tried to sand down the layer lines on the inside front because the wall was a bit wonky and the layers started to separate. I'll get a pic of that and post it. Otherwise, it seemed pretty solid.

I uploaded an STL version with thinner walls that might help the print time/material as well. For the bugs climbing the layers, I ended up just putting clear packing tape on the inside walls and they cannot climb that, works perfect.

Could you download anyother slicer to try? Bambuslicer or Prusa slicer should work fine

Printed beautifully!! Exactly what I needed, thanks!! Edited to add: I printed 3 with no issues using Bambu Labs in PETG and Bone White in PLA.

Hey where is the rectangle model (the backboard piece)? When I download the raw files, I only see the feeder itself.

Hey, I just uploaded the backboard piece as a raw file in both STL and .3mf. For the backboard, feel free to resize it as necessary in your slicer. Just print it with no top shell layers, and lightning or any dense infill that the bugs can crawl on!

How it works with crickets? Are they able to jump away or they stay in?

They can get out if they really try/are there long enough, but usually they jump once or twice, dont make it out then stay put in my experience.

They didn't for me, but you can add a clear tape on the inside layer to make it more slippery for them too
