Update 31.08.2025
Hello everyone,
I have updated the design files due to some small issues with the previous version. The model is intended to float on water, and the adjustments ensure that it now floats more stably and remains sealed for longer.
Please note: Before use, the model should still be sealed with clear varnish to ensure long-term watertightness.
Changes made:
- FWT_Weight_hole (.stl): The weight has been slightly increased and now includes a small drainage hole.
- FWT_Bottom (.stl + .3mf): Redesigned underwater element for better balance. In the print profile, additional walls were added and infill reduced.
- FWT_Middle (.3mf): Increased number of walls in the print profile for improved water resistance.
I recommend reprinting with the updated files to achieve the best functionality.
Thank you for your feedback and happy printing!
ATTENTION! When using PLA, the model must be sealed with varnish or a waterproofing agent after printing to ensure long-term water resistance.
English:
To give our rather plain pool thermometer a little upgrade, I redesigned it in the style of a navigation buoy from maritime traffic.
Since I received several requests about this design, I adapted it so it can be used with an inexpensive pool thermometer from Amazon (link below).
The design consists of several parts that can be assembled easily and should be fixed with a bit of glue for extra stability. To fit the thermometer, the small plastic eyelet with the lanyard needs to be removed.
Parts and recommended print settings:
- FWT_bottom: Black float body below the water surface (3 walls, 40% infill)
- FWT_middle: Red main body above the water surface (2 walls, 10% infill)
- FWT_top: Multicolor head (AMS, 2 walls, 15% infill)
- FWT_weight: Counterweight to keep the buoy stable in the water (2 walls, 100% infill)
Depending on your preference, different plates with numbers (or blank ones) can be attached to the top. Simply duplicate the desired number of plates on build plate 2.

Have fun building â and always enjoy a perfectly tempered swim! đ
Deutsch:

Edit:
Depending on your experience and the material used, it may be a good idea to coat the finished model with spray paint to prevent water from seeping in over time. However, I personally havenât had any issues with it so far.
