This is a fully 3D printed carabiner clip with an integrated snap-fit holder for Apple AirTags.
Attach it to your:
- Purses
- Backpacks
- Belt loops
- Key rings
- Lanyards
- Camera straps
- Tool belts
- Etc.
- Even your children, or pets!
It can be clipped on to anything with a loop or a ring.
It can be great for geofencing. Apple AirTags can enhance child safety by leveraging the Find My network to provide real-time location updates, even when your child is out of Bluetooth range. Parents can set up location alerts using the Find My app to be notified when a child arrives at or leaves a designated area. In crowded places like parks or malls, AirTags offer peace of mind by enabling precise tracking and rapid recovery if a child wanders out of sight
As noted, this carabiner clip integrates a snap-fit holder for Apple AirTags. As shown in the photos, one end of the snap-fit holder has a small spring that is designed to flex just a little. This allows you to snap your AirTag into the holder, where it is held securely. This is an essential part of the model.
Because flexing is important for this model, I recommend printing in PETG, or another filament that is able to flex without permanently deforming or breaking. PLA is usually not good at this. But it might work if you insert your AirTag one time and never take it out again. Take your chances. It is less than 50 cents worth of plastic. But do it at your own risk.
The carabiner is printed in two pieces, and needs to be assembled. Look at the photos, and assemble as shown. The “gate” piece is designed to be flexible. So don't worry about bending it as you insert it into the carabiner.
The carabiner is quite strong (thanks to n.leinad's excellent design) for 3D printed plastic. But compared to metal carabiners, it is not strong. Do not trust it with your life, or with anything else that you hold dear.
I adapted n.leinad's excellent Suicide Carabiner by integrating an AirTag holder into the model. I also modified the “gate” piece to make it a bit stronger, so the carabiner clip closes more forcefully.
For the AirTag holder, I started with LindsayFowler's fantastic Apple Air-tag model (which was based upon weberflo's Smallest AirTag Key Fob/Ring design). I removed the key ring connector from the end and replaced it with a small spring, that allows the AirTag holder to flex when AirTags are inserted or removed.
