5 Piece Quilt Block Template

These models are for a quilting template know as Crazy 8 also known as Crazier 8. You can purchase this template from several different suppliers or print your own.  There are 5 parts to the template labeled A thru B.  The profile is for a 2-color print with the second color being the template designator letter.  Since the letters are recessed, they can be printed as a single-color print and you will still be able to read the letters.  This is an easy print in whatever type of filament you want however good bed adhesion is a must to prevent the corners from lifting causing the parts to warp.

 You can cut your fabric pieces from individual fabric scraps or from a 10"x10" block of fabric. When cutting from a 10" block you will have 5 identically colored pieces. Mix these pieces with other pieces from other 10" blocks of different fabric to create a multi-colored 8" block. Stitch A to the left side of B using a 1/4" seam allowance. Press the seam to one side. Next, stitch C to the opposite edge of B using a 1/4" seam allowance and press the seam to one side.  Next, stitch D to E using a 1/4" seam allowance and again press the seam to one side. Finally, stitch the D/E part to the A/B/C part using a 1/4" seam allowance.  Note: The pre-trimmed corners will allow for perfect fabric alignment. The finished block should measure 8 1/2 " x 8 1/2"; trim to 8 ½" if necessary. With a ¼" seam allowance your block will measure 8" x 8" in your finished quilt.
