Description
Design Concept
The Lindwurm is a fascinating blend of tradition and fantasy, representing an important connection to Carinthian culture.
The Lindwurm is the emblem of Klagenfurt and is represented by a fountain figure on Neuer Platz. The statue depicts a dragon, recalling the legend of the Lindwurm, which is said to have once threatened the city. The Lindwurm has also been the coat of arms of Klagenfurt since 1287.
The Lindwurm Fountain was erected in the 16th century and stands on Neuer Platz in the heart of Klagenfurt.
The statue is made of green chlorite slate and weighs approximately 6 tons. The Lindwurm Fountain is a popular photo motif for tourists and locals.
The legend of the Lindwurm tells of a dangerous dragon that was defeated by brave men, allowing the city of Klagenfurt to emerge.
