Description

I’ve always wanted a 3D-printed submarine that actually works, and after a lot of tinkering… here it is. This is probably the only working 3D printable submarine that sinks under the water so only the periscope sticks out, like a real one, and then cruises forward using my Wind-Up Box Addon (link here) mechanism.

WARNING!: This isn’t a complete standalone submarine. To make it really move, you’ll need to grab my universal wind-up mechanism and drop it inside (link above). Without it, you can still print the whole thing and have an awesome playable model, but trust me, watching it glide underwater is where the magic happens.

I made this as one of the three showcase projects for the mechanism, to prove you can build pretty much anything around it. So take this submarine, have fun with it, and if you come up with your own version, make sure to link back to the wind-up mechanism box, that way you’ll get all the future improvements for free.

The assembly isn’t rocket science, but it can be tricky, so I made this step-by-step guide:
