Floating Wheel Caps – Description and Installation Notes

What are Floating Caps?

Floating caps are wheel center caps designed so that the logo remains perfectly upright and readable regardless of how the wheel rotates. This is achieved through an internal bearing or weighted mechanism that keeps the emblem stationary relative to the ground while the wheel spins.

On Rolls-Royce vehicles, this feature is a signature element of luxury and attention to detail — and there’s no reason not to add it to a Mercedes as well.

Important Fitment Check

  • Verify that your wheels can accommodate the depth of the floating cap mechanism without touching the vehicle’s hub cap.
  • Minimum clearance required: 21 mm from the outer edge of the wheel center bore to the hub cap.

3D Printing Instructions

  • The print will pause at layer 125 to allow for inserting the bearing into the printed part.
  • Printing must then be resumed to create a strong, non-detachable assembly.
