After the success of the P-51D Mustang kit card, I’ve had many requests for more iconic warbirds, so here’s the second addition to the collection, the legendary F4U Corsair.

The Corsair’s instantly recognizable bent wings weren’t just for looks, they were designed to provide clearance for its massive propeller, while keeping the landing gear short and sturdy. Serving in WWII and the Korean War, the Corsair became one of the most feared carrier-based fighters of its era.

Fun facts:

  • Nicknamed “Whistling Death” by Japanese pilots because of the distinctive sound made by its wing-root air intakes.
  • Its inverted gull wing allowed for a larger propeller without overly long landing gear legs.
  • Set a record kill ratio in the Pacific theater — over 11:1.

If you enjoyed the P-51D, you’ll want this in your warbird lineup. Print one, or a whole squadron and bring a piece of WWII aviation history to your desk or shelf.
