Description

📜 Project Description – Hobbit / Lord of the Rings Jewellery Box

This is a custom-designed jewellery box with five drawers, inspired by the rich fantasy world of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

The sides and lid feature engraved and relief elements from the films, including the One Ring inscription on the top. Each drawer front is adorned with an elegant twist pattern, while the drawer pulls are modeled after the iconic Elven leaf brooch gifted to the Fellowship.

Inside, I created different-sized trays to fit within the drawers, allowing for organized storage of jewellery pieces of various shapes and sizes — from rings and earrings to bracelets and necklaces.

The model was printed using Bambu Lab PLA Black for the main structure and Bambu Lab PLA Gold for the decorative highlights, achieving a striking contrast between shadow and shine. Printing was done on a smooth build plate with a 3DLAC adhesive coating to ensure a flawless finish and secure bed adhesion.

The result is a functional, display-worthy jewellery box that combines practical storage with Middle-earth artistry. Perfect for any Tolkien fan — and, of course, for keeping my precious safe.

Note for makers: If you download the my precious STP files, take into account adjusting XY Contour Compensation in your slicer for certain parts (check the original .3mf) to ensure a perfect fit.

“Fits nice, yesss… no gaps, no loose bits… precious likes it snug…”

💡 Disclaimer:
Any questions regarding ownership, usage, or the whereabouts of my precious may be answered by Gollum. Responses may include hissing, muttering, and debates between “Smeagol” and “Gollum” and are not legally binding in any Middle-earth court.

🗺 Mounting Instructions – The Assembly Quest:

  • Begin your journey by sliding the Back Panel of Erebor onto the Right Wall of Rohan, then onto the Left Wall of LĂłrien… or the other way round, should the winds of fate decide.

“Yesss… slide it together, precious… nice and tight…”

  • Secure the foundations by sliding the Bottom of the Shire between the left, right, and back walls, uniting the realms.

“Strong foundations… keeps nasty thieves out…”

  • Crown the fortress by placing the Lid of Gondor atop the structure.

“Shut it up safe… no one sees inside but us…”

  • Forge the clasp by setting the Elven Leaf Button into the face of the drawer.

“Pretty little leaf… we likes it, precious…”

  • Send forth the drawer into the heart of the box and seal it with the Pins of the Westfold.

    “Yes… lock it away… they won’t find it…”

  • Fill the treasure chests with your chosen trays, each sized to guard jewels, trinkets, and heirlooms of Middle-earth.

    “Shiny things… all for us…”

☕ Final Step:
Take a moment, traveler, to gaze upon your creation… a relic worthy of the halls of Rivendell, perfect for keeping safe that which you call my precious.

“Ooooh yesss… our preciousss…”

🙏 Special Thanks:
Thanks to Jeffrey @ LayerFusionLabs, whose JP ModOr Collection inspired this creation.

“Helpful hobbit… gave us ideas… yesss…”

my wife is a huge fan of the series, this turned out great. printed the inserts different colors and like it better than black. pla metals and pla silt rose gold contrast nicely with your great work. This has a nice weight, uses a lot of filament but that makes it feel solid and draws very functional and slides nicely.

Hi, did you mix different types of filament, such as PLA with PETG or ABS? If yes, that could be one possible reason. Did you use filaments from other brands? If so, did you adjust the filament parameters properly? I assume you’re using a Bambu Lab printer and Bambu Lab Slicer. I don’t have experience with other 3D printer brands or with other slicers.

Hi @LovesBlues, It seems something went wrong during your print — the model and print profile have been rated 5 stars by other users and printed successfully without issues. Since you didn’t upload any photos, it’s difficult to see what exactly happened. Some pictures of the failed print or your setup could be useful to help identify the cause.

I had to print many parts twice, or reposition them on the plate for my printer to print them properly and generally mess around with them after printing them once. but they do print out after messing around with them. which is why I didn’t give you a terrible review. however, I still haven’t been able to fully assemble the box, and my husband who is a retired engineer, he gave up trying to help me. I had it almost all together once but something was just slightly off and I thought I could do better so I took it apart and then for some reason I had to walk away for a few days, came back and it would not go back together with ease, and I couldn’t remember how I had done it. so I looked up the design notes, again and tried again, called my husband in when I couldn’t succeed and he too couldn’t figure it out. I always bring him in as a check sum so to speak because I sometimes do get frustrated. I was reading my above review and I don’t know why it reads like that!

I have a new printer, the h2d Im willing to give it a second chance at printing it again but I don’t think my assembly attitude will improve much unless I have an epiphany, or perhaps you offer up a ‘zen diagram’ lol

Thank you. What do you mean by loading the “Right Side”? Did you download the STP file and try to open it in Bambu Lab Slicer? If yes, I’m seeing the same issue on my side — possibly due to the pattern and, consequently, the file size. I’m not sure what changed with the slicer since I uploaded the model. I can open the STP file in a CAD program, but not in the slicer. Why not use the 3MF file instead? All parts are already included there. You can also export all components as STL files from the 3MF file. Please also take into account the X–Y contour compensation for some parts (already included in the 3MF).

Replying to @ant4hunt :
Edit: It took about 20 minutes to open the Right Side.stp file in Bambu Lab Slicer.

my apologies I was loading it wrong somehow. I unfortunately have a Flashforge ad5x and the part with ring decor is to big to print. I have angled a few different ways but still hangs out :( is there a way to scale everything down evenly so it can fit? thank you again
