Scaled Amphitheater Boxes model (incl. figures)
Print Profile(1)

Description
These are scaled models of amphitheater boxes from The Amphitheater Project by Mike Peterson. (Yes, I have permission from the author to model and share these under the CC license above.) They are at a scale of 1" = 2mm. The file also includes actor models that you can print in both standing and seated orientations. The actors are modeled to be just over 5' tall, proportionately. Be aware that simply scaling the figures to make taller actors (relative to the boxes) will make the seated figure not fit the boxes correctly anymore. The boxes are modeled to almost exact dimensions assuming that the plans in the book are followed. Some minor adjustments (rounding errors) were made but they don't affect the stackability or external proportions of the boxes.
Amphitheater boxes are an incredible tool for live theatrical performance, but boy howdy are they heavy to lug around and stack, restack, and try different layouts. These models are much easier and (bonus!) the Amphitheater Project books themselves form a great stage template at this scale. The box models are also marked with both the (actually designed) size in inches and the numbering system used by Peterson in the books (#1, #2, #3, #4) as a reference.
Not familiar with The Amphitheater Project? Two volumes are out (as this model is being posted).

In short, The Amphitheater Project volumes are collections of short (mostly royalty-free) plays designed specifically to fit in the tiny spaces that cities like to drop in the unused corners of parks and the like. The plays require little to no props, few actors, and come in a variety of genres. The idea is that the entire performance (including all actors, set and props) should fit inside of one car. The amphitheater boxes are a clever trick to make that work. They're an inexpensive solution for suggestive sets that maximize portability and utility.
This model essentially provides the same kind of functional design potential that UIL Set models also give to stage designers, directors, etc. for UIL performances.
