Many thanks for your support

Magazine for the AEA Megalodon.

Since the originals are clearly too expensive for me, I designed my own.

Depending on the filament, I had to play a bit with the height of the lid. It was about 0.1-0.2mm.

The following tools and materials are required for one magazine:

  • Drill bits D = 4mm, 3.2mm, 1mm
  • M4 tap
  • Screwdriver or Allen key (depending on screw)
  • Pliers and lighter (for inserting the ball rollers)
  • Craft knife (for removing support structure and brim)
  • Small hammer
  • Solid steel base
  • 1 piece M4 x 10 countersunk screw
  • 2 pieces ball plunger / ball caster D4 L5 (found on eBay like this)
  • 1 piece spring outer D=16, 6-9 coils, wire D=0.7-0.8, 90°
  • Steel pin NOT hardened D=3mm x 5mm (alternatively an M3 x 5 grub screw)

Free the body and drum from the brim and support structure with the knife.

Drill out the holes for the ball rollers with the D=4mm drill bit.

Heat the ball rollers and press them into the holes with the pliers.

Pre-drill the center hole in the body with the 3.2mm drill bit approx. 15mm

and cut the M4 thread. (can also be drilled larger to insert a threaded sleeve).

Heat the 3x5mm steel pin and insert it into the lid.

The pin must be flush with the outside of the lid.

Place the lid with the outside on the steel base and lightly upset the steel pin with a small hammer.

Upsetting the steel pin greatly improves its hold in the lid.

Rework the holes for the springs with the D=1mm drill bit.

Insert the spring and drum into the body (it's a bit fiddly…).

Ensure that the drum has a slight preload.

Then place the lid and insert the countersunk screw.

Only tighten the screw enough so that the lid can still rotate.

If desired, some threadlocker can also be used.

Have fun printing.

I would be very happy about a like or a boost.
