Description

Ever wanted to make those perfect triangle onigiri like the ones from Japanese convenience stores (you know, the legendary 7-Eleven ones)? Now you can – straight from your 3D printer!

This mold is available in two versions:

  • SIMPLE version: made of 3 parts – base, mold, and press. Super quick to print (under 1 hour), and no supports needed.
  • FULL version: adds an extra lid with a built-in plunger to neatly create the filling cavity. It takes a bit more time to print and does require supports, especially for the plunger part.

Printing info:

  • Layer height: 0.2 mm recommended
  • No supports for SIMPLE version
  • Supports required for FULL version
  • Material: PLA, PETG, or whatever you’ve got on hand

Important food-safe note:
3D printed plastics (especially FDM) aren’t food safe by default – small gaps and layer lines can trap bacteria.

Avoid direct contact between rice and plastic.

Use a sheet of plastic wrap (cling film) inside the mold:

  • It keeps everything hygienic
  • Prevents sticking
  • Helps release the rice without breaking the shape

How to use the onigiri mold kit:

  1. Line the mold with cling film
  2. Add ~80–100g of warm rice
  3. If you’re using the FULL version, use the plunger to make a clean cavity for your filling – or use a teaspoon
  4. Add your filling of choice (tuna mayo, pickled plum, spicy salmon...go wild)
  5. Cover with a bit more rice and press down with the flat top
  6. Push from the bottom to eject the onigiri. Done.

Want the full 7-Eleven experience?
To get that iconic convenience store feel – where the seaweed stays crispy and unwraps cleanly without getting your hands sticky – you can use ready-made onigiri wrappers with a built-in pull-tab.

Here’s a great kit you can grab on AliExpress:
Onigiri Wrapper Kit with Pull Tab

Just insert a nori sheet into the wrapper, place your finished onigiri inside, and seal it up. When it’s time to eat, pull the tab and enjoy – just like pulling one off the fridge shelf at a Tokyo combini.
