Summary

Want a realistic Thermite grenade with a spring-loaded flying handle?  Thermite grenades burn at over 4,500 degrees (about 2,500 C) and melt steel.  This model has printed text that doesn't require an AMS -- simply print the text and pop it in, no color changes.

Background: The AN-M14 thermite grenade is used to destroy enemy equipment by generating intense heat. Filled with a thermate-TH3 incendiary mixture, it burns at approximately 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit, producing molten iron which can melt through engine blocks and other metallic components. The reaction is self-sustaining, producing its own oxygen, allowing it to burn even underwater and effectively destroy vehicles, weapons systems, and other targets.

Assembly

There's 3 assembly options:

  1. Metal Spring – if you have a metal spring, even a pen spring will often work, then print the metal spring profile.  It is designed to work with the Bambu Store's 0.5x7x12mm spring (linked lower on the page).  If you use a pen spring, you can usually cut it in half and get two springs.
  2. Plastic Spring – if you don't have a metal spring, but still want the handle to fly off, then print the plastic spring profile.  (see details below for more info about plastic spring).
    1. Don't leave the spring under tension when not using it as it will wear out much faster.
    2. Avoid Matte and Silk filament for the spring itself, Basic and Metal work better.
    3. If you want a spring that lasts longer, consider using the metal spring version, keep in mind even pen springs usually work.
  3. No Flying Handle - if you don't want the handle to fly off and just want a grenade model, simply print the metal spring profile and don't put a spring in it.

(Option 1) Metal Spring Assembly

For the metal spring version, I'd recommend attaching the top upside down so the spring doesn't fall out

(Option 2) Plastic Spring Assembly

Simply insert the spring peg into the square hole, then pop on the top.

Bambu filaments used

  • Matte Red
  • Matte Black for the text
  • Metal Iron Gray Black for the spoon handle
  • Silk+ Silver

Boost Me (for free)

If you enjoy my work and would like to help support my ability to share more (and even better) models in the future, please consider boosting or buying me a coffee at the link below.   Your support is what helps me have enough filament and supplies to do all the print testing required for my models to be high quality and easy to assemble.  It takes a mountain of test prints for each model. Thanks :-)

Here's a link to my Buy Me a Coffee page, thanks for the support!

Thanks 🙂 I have some prints on the larger side coming up for sure, some shells and such, but that's an interesting thought about larger things that go on the wall -- did you have anything in particular or any category of thing in mind?

It doesn't require an AMS since none of the pieces are multicolor. If you are looking to try out an AMS on some grenades, a lot of my other grenades have AMS versions, like my MK2 world war II grenade or flashbang and so forth.

I've been printing a ton of your work all weekend and love it. In a lot of the items I change seam to random so it's not visible and think they turn out better. For this particular model, I'm wondering if it would be possible to add a version where the letters are built into the body for those with dual nozzle printers?

Good question -- I personally have an X1c so I can't test dual color dual nozzle kind of printing, I suppose that's something I should look into getting 🤔
