Description
This part is designed to increase the torsional stiffness of the IKEA IVAR frame by bracing the vertical posts with rigid diagonal members.
The result is a stiffer, more stable structure that better resists flex and sway caused by dynamic loads, induced by a 3D printer.
The brackets are sized to hold 15×15 mm wooden strips, readily available at most hardware stores. Cut each strip to 630 mm to fit snugly across an IVAR bay. Install two or more crossed braces at different heights (e.g. above and below your printer) to form a rigid “box” that greatly improves overall frame stability.
After mounting to the frame, the wooden strips are screwed together at the crossing point, mechanically joining them for additional structural stiffness.
Make sure to drill pilot holes first to prevent splintering the wood.
The included pucks act as standoffs for the OBSERVATÖR cross brace — they prevent interference between the brace’s round section and the IVAR frame, avoiding buckling and enabling proper installation.
