A small yet great handy solution for disposing of daily compostable kitchen waste

ATTENTION: UPDATE 23.08.2025

After some searching, I couldn't find a suitable printable bin for our daily organic waste, which is why I ventured to design one myself, and it has proven effective so far

The bin, consisting of the bucket, a collection container, lid, and handle, holds almost 4L of food waste before it needs to be emptied. At its widest point, the bin measures 252mm externally, 204mm at its narrowest, and the height from the tip of the lid to the base is 226.5mm

The collection container is perforated at the bottom (2mm diameter) so that liquids can drain and be collected in the bucket

The distance between the bottom of the collection container and the bottom of the bucket is 26.5mm. Sufficient space for draining liquids

The drained liquid can be easily disposed of via a toilet or sink, and accordingly, the suspension of the collection container and lid in the bucket has been broken through on one side for this purpose. This also makes the bucket easier to clean and free of wastewater

The handle is hung vertically from bottom to top into its designated suspension on the bucket. As soon as the handle is no longer vertical to the bucket, it will not fall out of its suspension. A very simple solution

Thanks to the handle, the bucket can be ideally taken to the household waste bin and easily emptied

Since the bin comes into contact with liquids, it should not be printed in PLA, but rather in PETG or ABS

UPDATE 23.08.2025

With intensive use and daily cleaning of the bucket, it has become leaky, causing water to accumulate in the infill of the rounded inner corners. The leak could possibly be fixed by increasing the wall lines, but to be safe, I completely removed the rounded corner and simultaneously reinforced the wall lines to be on the safe side

After a few days of use, I have not yet been able to identify any leaks

Despite PETG, it unfortunately didn't last long. Perhaps it would need to be printed solid

Hello, what does not last long mean? What is the problem, or what is broken, worn, bent or similar

Replying to @Brons :
Unfortunately, it warped in the dishwasher. The design was great in principle

Thank you for the feedback and sorry that the catch basket did not hold up for long. In fact, because the basket is extremely large and has thin walls, it can deform or warp at high temperatures in the dishwasher. If there is interest, I can construct the walls slightly thicker inwards, at the expense of volume. Another alternative would be to reprint it in ABS
