🛠️ Customizable Roof Cap – Parametric Design

This parametric roof cap is designed for 3D printing and outdoor use on wooden posts or steel tubes. It's highly customizable and can be adapted to different dimensions, angles, and screw placements.

Perfect for pergolas, fences, outdoor frames, and other constructions requiring a sloped protective cap.

⚙️ Customizable Parameters

📏 Dimensions:

  • post_width – width of the post (X direction)
  • post_height – depth of the post (Y direction)
  • tolerance_width – added clearance on both sides of the width
  • tolerance_height – added clearance on both sides of the height

🧱 Thickness & Heights:

  • wall_thickness – thickness of the cap walls
  • bottom_height – height of the flat vertical base section
  • roof_height – height of the sloped roof section

📐 Angles:

  • roof_angle – slope angle of the roof
  • bottom_angle – optional bevel on the bottom base for drainage or aesthetics

🔩 Screw Holes:

  • screw_hole_dia_width – screw hole diameter on the width side
  • screw_hole_dia_height – screw hole diameter on the height side

To disable screw holes, enter 0.001 for the diameter – no hole will be created.

🧠 Helpful Notes:

  • If you're aiming for a steeper roof angle, you may need to increase the roof_height.
  • A lower roof height is suitable for flatter angles.
  • Tolerance values are added to both sides (e.g., 0.4 → 0.8 mm total).
  • Works with most 3D printers – support-free printing depends on the slope angle.

🧰 Use Cases:

  • Outdoor wooden posts or beams (e.g., 70x70 mm)
  • Square or rectangular steel profiles
  • Pergolas, garden structures, fences
  • Weather protection and finishing touches

Below is an example with two images of the parametric roof cap.

On the left side, the roof angle is used to its full potential.
On the right side, the angle is less utilized, which means the roof height (roof_height) could be reduced to make the overall model smaller.

This is just an example and a recommendation.
The final design always depends on the user’s preference and how they want the result to look.
