Mist still clings to the Underdark entrance when a stone golem — hewn from the mountain’s very heart — steps forward to bar the passage. Facing him is a myconid spore-bearer, sworn by the colony to guard its sacred roots. Blow meets blow: granite grinds against chitin, spores burst like sparks in the dark. Both guardians fall; the golem shatters, the myconid collapses into a drift of spores.

Deep in the soil, crystal shards fuse with fungal threads. Years pass. From that half-forgotten grave rises a new sentinel: the Spore-Stone Warden. A glowing crystal “heart of spores” beats in its chest, and the mingled memories of two dead guardians coil inside its mind. It now patrols the same threshold, fearless, merciless, striking down every intruder — even the myconids whose spores birthed it.с
