Description

I remixed the mounting plate for this clever phone mount.

Now it will look cleaner and nicely fit some rounded rectangle adhesive strips I purchased.
Shown installed in a GMC Savana (2022). The GMC Savana is identical to the Chevy Express.

I've included two versions:

  • V1 has been tested, and is shown in the photos.
  • V2 has not been tested yet. It has a keyed slot for the ball joint, to prevent it spinning in place (which may prevent need for glue at all). It also has slightly wider base dimensions (full 30mm x 50mm), to give a little extra room for the adhesive pad (easier installation).

Printing:

Printed on Bambu Lab P1S (0.4mm nozzle) with:

  • Engineering Plate (discontinued by Bambu Lab - the default Textured PEI Plate should also work just fine)
  • Bambu ABS (black). You can use something else, but this will better withstand high temperatures!

For v1 (shown in photos), just the mounting plate is replaced with mine.

For v2 (so far untested), the mounting plate and ball joint must be replaced with mine. v2 requires a small amount of supports.

*print profile is separated into 2 color zones. But you can also do what I did and just print the whole thing in one solid color.

Assembly/Installation:

You can check the comments in the remix link for specific instructions!

Basically the body gets pieced together, then held with x4 screws.

After this, the mounting plate/joint get attached using x1 screw (if using V1, you will likely need glue for this final screw).

Finally, the adhesive strip is attached to the mounting plate and stuck to the desired surface.

I used one of these 3M VHB adhesive strips, which it is sized specifically for!
Choose a surface that it can fully contact with (i.e something that's pretty flat, not overly curvy).

Make sure you clean the surface before sticking! Hold it in place for a minute, then don't use the phone mount until it's fully bonded.

Enjoy!

Thanks. There are other vent clip mounts posted though, and I don't plan to use that. I don't want to block the fan!

you don't want a vent clip. not good when your heaters on and can stress your vents to either deform, displace or break. already been there. save yourself the trouble.

This isn't a vent clip. This attaches to any flat surface. See my reply to another user explaining why I don't recommend a vent clip.
