Description

About 5 years ago, I proposed to my now wife on a week long trip we took to Seattle. I had the proposal all planned out, what day and where to do it, but it ended up raining on the day and we had to change our plans. So the whole trip I was waiting for the right time to pop the question all while carrying around a large engagement ring box with me everywhere we went. The box was too big to fit in my pocket so I had to keep it in my backpack. At the time I was more focused on asking the big question so I didn't pay too much attention to the design of the box, but now after several years later I think about that trip and wish I just had a simple, small ring box to hold the ring to make it easier to carry around.

I designed a simple, slim ring box which is about 2.2 x 1.8 x 0.75 inches when closed. It has a pin hinge design. I used an 11/16" metal screw post (link below) for the hinge, but I'm sure you can find something similar at your local craft store. The box also has snap beads on the inside to ensure the box snaps closed. There is also a finger recess in the front to help open the box. The inside diameter is about 1.36" and about 0.4" tall. I posted some photos of an early test print.

This ring box could be a nice gift to give to a friend or significant other as a fun Valentine's Day gift or any special occasion. The box can hold a promise ring (or engagement ring if you really wanted to and if it isn't too big) or small jewelry. You may want to add a small foam pad on the top and bottom to protect the ring.

This ring box is still just a concept and some further design modifications may need to be made still to optimize the part. Print at your own risk. Test the part and make sure you are comfortable with the design and function before putting expensive jewelry inside. I posted a STEP file of the part so feel free to download and make edits to personalize or improve the design.

Thanks!
