________________________________________________________________

This modular hydroponic insert transforms the decorative Lechuza CUBE 30 into a fully functional hydroponic planter. The 3D-printable components provide a simple and clean entry into hydroponic plant cultivation – ideal for balconies, patios, greenhouses, or indoor gardening.

The Lechuza CUBE 30 is a robust, water-retaining planter with an integrated water level indicator. The hydroponic extensions are tailored to the Lechuza CUBE 30 and designed to utilize all parts of the planter through minor adjustments.

Component Details

  • Lid with Adapter
The main lid forms the base for the hydroponic system. Together with the modular adapter, the lid fits precisely into the Lechuza CUBE 30. This adapter allows the lid to be used with other Lechuza pots (e.g., the Lechuza CUBICO 30 – model to be released shortly).

  • Removable Plant Basket
A removable plant basket is situated in the center for cultivating the plant. It is ventilated and suitable for hydroponic media such as rockwool, clay pebbles, or cotton fleece. The basket is easily inserted and removed, for example, for cleaning or plant replacement.

  • Support Structure (Legs)
The lid is internally supported by a printed construction with three sturdy legs that are inserted into the lid. The fourth corner rests on the water level indicator guide via the adapter, resulting in a very stable structure, suitable even for larger plants such as chili peppers or tomatoes.

  • Plant Stake Holders
Four holes for 10 mm diameter plant stakes are located around the plant basket. These serve as climbing aids for tall plants such as tomatoes or chili peppers. If stakes are not needed, the included blind plugs from the print file can be used.

Modifying the Lechuza CUBE 30

Inlay

Several holes must be drilled into the inlay of the Lechuza CUBE 30 to allow for pump connection and adequate water circulation. Additionally, a small opening is needed for the water pump cable.

Water Level Indicator
The original water level indicator of the Lechuza pot remains fully visible and functional; however, the red indicator rod and the central tube must each be shortened by 6.5 cm. Alternatively, a suitable replacement tube is also available in the print profile if you wish to preserve the original.

Additional Components

In addition to the Lechuza CUBE 30, the following parts are required for operation:

  1. Hose with 12/16 mm diameter
Either an aquarium hose or a food-safe silicone hose can be used. Aquarium hoses are cheaper but very stiff. Silicone hoses are more expensive but much more flexible.

  2. A water pump (300 l/h)
The water pump should have a minimum flow rate of 300 liters per hour. We use a high-quality water pump from the German brand manufacturer EHEIM, the CompactOn 300.

  3. Optional: Timer
The pump does not need to run 24 hours a day; in fact, it is better to run the pump only for a certain time per hour, as excessive watering can lead to root rot. We have had good experiences with 10-20 minutes per hour. We use a Shelly Plug S, which can be set to the minute.
