Stack-a-Zoo – The Wildly Unstable Animal Stacking Game

Welcome to the most chaotic wildlife preserve this side of the kitchen table!
Stack-a-Zoo is a family-friendly, 3D-printed stacking game where precision, creativity, and a dash of jungle madness collide.

Whether you're building a serene animal sculpture in solo Animal Yoga mode, or racing your friends in competitive Stack Wars, this game is designed to bring balance, tension, and a whole zoo of fun.

Looking for a blockier/larger version? Check out my Toddler Friendly Version!

🎯 Game Features

  •  Solo Mode: Animal Yoga – A calming challenge to stack all your animals and the Warden without collapsing.
  •  Multiplayer Mode: Stack Wars – All players stack at once; first to finish becomes the Warden and sets wild rules!
  •  Stampede Rule – Call chaos ONCE per game to shake the table.
  •  Rotating Warden System – The winner picks challenge rules for the rest of the players!
  •  Family-friendly, pun-filled, and full of balancing suspense.

🎲 Game Pieces (Per Player)

  •  15 Unique Animal Pieces – Each shaped differently for unique stacking strategies.
  •  1 Warden Figure – Must be the final piece on top of your tower.
  •  1 Base – Flat and stable with a slit to hold your first animal in place.

You can print each player’s set in different colors for easy identification, or mix it up for maximum jungle fun.

📜 Rules Overview

SOLO – Animal Yoga

  • Stack all 15 animals and the Warden without making a zoo-pocalypse.
  • Only your chosen Foundation Animal may touch the sacred flat ground.
  • Orientation? Totally up to you. Yes, upside-down works.
  • The Warden must be the final, majestic cherry on top.

MULTIPLAYER – Stack Wars

SETUP:

  1. Each player gets: 1 base, 15 animals, 1 Warden.
  2. Choose a Foundation Animal — only it may touch the base. Place it in any orientation. Take your time.
  3. Once all players are happy, the game begins.

GAMEPLAY:

  • Free Play Stack Race- No turns — everyone stacks at their own pace.
  • Goal: Stack all 15 animals + the Warden without collapse.

VICTORY CONDITION:

  • First to finish stacking calls out: 'The Zoo Is Complete!'- They win and become the Warden of the Table.
  • The Warden imposes a challenge on remaining players:
    • Stack with non-dominant hand
    • Make the matching animal sound for every animal you place
    • Close one eye
    • Only stack animals upside-down
    • Stand to Stack – Players must be standing to place animals
    • Whatever rule you desire to make up!
  • Rotating Warden System:- The next player to finish becomes the NEW Warden.- They replace the current challenge with a NEW one! This continues until all players have finished.

THE STAMPEDE! 🐘🐘🐘

Once per game, each player may declare a STAMPEDE
How it works:

  1. Yell 'STAMPEDE!
  2. All other players must freeze for 5 seconds — hands off towers!
  3. Give the table a good bump or smack (don't break your furniture). Did animals fall? Get back to work and get them back on that tower! If yours falls too... well, you started it…. that's the risk! Pro tip: Use Stampede just before someone stacks the Warden for maximum chaos. Timing is everything.
  4. Resume the fun!

✨ Game Pieces Ready to Print and Play ✨

Print Plates Include:

  • 15 animals (Elephant, Hippo, Rhino, Tiger, Lion, Giraffe, Penguin, Camel, Zebra, Monkey, Gorilla, Toucan, Kangaroo, Antelope and Crocodile!)
  • 1 Warden figure
  • Stack base

Whether you’re stacking penguins on elephants or balancing a lion under a rhino, Stack-a-Zoo guarantees wobbly towers, wild laughter, and top-tier chaos.

Stack-a-Zoo: Animal Transport Crate

Keep your wild ones in check — in style!

This crate is the official transport container for your Stack-a-Zoo animals (or any other tiny zoo escapees). Inspired by classic safari freight boxes, it's designed with a satisfying snap-on lid to keep all your animal friends snug and ready for stacking mayhem.

🛠️ Features:

  • 🪵 Wooden Crate Aesthetic – Faux slats and angled beams give it a charming, zoo-bound vibe
  • 🧳 Removable Lid – Snap-on style lid keeps your animals secure but easy to access
  • 📦 Spacious Interior – Holds your full set of 15 Stack-a-Zoo animal pieces plus the Warden
  • 🦓 Great for Display or Play – Stack it, store it, or make it part of your zoo setup

Whether you're prepping for a cross-continental animal adventure or just need a tidy place to toss your zebras, this crate is the perfect way to carry the wild with you.

-August 4, 2025 - Storage box final design and test print, just needs a couple of optimizations.

-August 11, 2025 - Storage box for single player or 4 player stack now available.

The elephant is a bit too wide to fit in the base (8.4 mm instead of 8 like the rest) and the camel is a bit too narrow (6.4 mm instead of 8 mm). Is this intentional?

No, that is NOT intended and thanks for letting me know! I had a scaling issue where the camel came out huge and instead of redesigning it, I adjusted the sizing in bambu labs. Meant to scale just the X/Y and not the Z. I'll fix it and get a new print profile up. (same with the elephant felt it was small so I sized it up.)

Print Profile has been corrected and uploaded. Went ahead and fixed it in the core file so no more accidental sizing errors through the slicer. If you want to go ahead and print just the elephant and camel, that should fix your issue. Thanks again for letting me know!!

Very nice Thank you very much It is great that all parts can be printed individually This way I could print a few animals whenever I had time and if one gets lost you can simply print a new one

That's an awesome looking tower! I should have the one player storage box uploaded later today/tomorrow, if you want to store your pieces properly!

I am still printing a box with only 3 layers It only takes 1 hour Let's see how stable it is Otherwise I will check again It would be great if the name of the game was on the box

Yes, the box features the name engraved on the "wood" panels of the box. and the lid works like a base plate for play.

The outcome is truly splendid I have rendered it in four distinct hues and have also engineered a bespoke enclosure perfectly accommodating the figures Should the game's progenitor express a desire for this and grant their approbation I would be most pleased to disseminate it to the broader community

That's actually pretty clever. Might look into adding a balance base into the print

Nice game. Some sharp edges that needed to be sanded before use by smaller children.

Looks awesome! Love your color choice and the two tone base plate is a nice touch! I did release a toddler friendly version yesterday depending on the age of your kids. Link is in the description of this print.

I would love it if you could make an A1 Mini compatible print using 2 or 3 plates? I work with an autistic child who loves anything to do with animals and it would be a great addition to our activities. Thank you 😊

Good Morning! I litterally just uploaded an A1 Mini optimized print profile before seeing your comment. The print profile for the A1 mini now has every game piece (Expansions included in the print plate). I managed to shove all 12 starter pieces into one plate. Are you saying you'd prefer the 12 starter pieces spread out over 2-3 plates? Would love your feedback to make it a better experience for everyone.

Soo sorry!!! I just realized you were talking about a different game. (been working extensively on my new Greek Mythology one and didn't pay attention to which game you were commenting on) I'll work on that A1 Mini profile for you now! I'll have it up shortly!

Awesome! That sounds great. I only mentioned multiple plates as thought they might not all fit on one. It is after midnight here in NZ and I have just started another print so will have a try in the morning. I will let you know how it goes. Thank you.
