Description
Summer paddleboarding is fantastic, but the inflation and deflation processes using only manual methods can be quite laborious.
Paddleboards are unique; they require significant inflation volume and substantial pressure (12~15PSI). Fan-type inflators lack sufficient pressure; high-pressure inflators (such as Xiaomi's air pump) lack sufficient volume. Commercially available paddleboard pumps are nearly as expensive as the paddleboard itself, making them cost-prohibitive.
I considered using my Xiaomi handheld vacuum cleaner, which is compact and features a powerful mode; its fan appears quite strong. Its cylindrical body, with intake at the top and exhaust at the bottom, essentially functions as a high-airflow, low-pressure pump. This suggested creating an adapter that fits snugly on both ends, enabling both inflation and deflation functions.
And so, this adapter was born.
Testing revealed that the normal mode inflates the paddleboard in 2-3 minutes, after which switching to high speed achieves a maximum pressure of 1.5-2PSI. Manual inflation was then used to complete the process.
Note:
- I used standard R3D PETG filament (40g), printing for 1 hour and 50 minutes.
- Initial printing used default bed adhesion and parameters; vertical printing resulted in insufficient interlayer adhesion, causing easy breakage at the interface.
- I now use 5 walls, 25% spiral infill, and print horizontally. Some roughness remains at the supports, but this doesn't impact functionality.
- A 20x30 silicone gasket is recommended for improved sealing.
