Print Profile(1)

Description
Kotaix was one of the main deities of the Selk'nam people, an indigenous tribe from Tierra del Fuego in southern Argentina and Chile. He was considered a powerful spirit or god who played a central role in their mythology and spiritual ceremonies. Often depicted as a tall figure with painted designs and wearing a mask, Kotaix was associated with creation and cosmic order. In Selk'nam rituals—especially the Hain initiation ceremony—Kotaix appeared symbolically through masked performers, representing his authority and the ancestral rules that governed the tribe's world.
