Description

Drill Whirly Gigs FAST!

When my wife asked me to drill the 200 wooden discs she ordered to make whirley gigs for a Pioneer Day (Utah State Holiday) activity, I whipped up a jig to hold the discs in place.

This Jig holds ¼ inch thick, 2 inch wide discs for drilling two 1/8 inch holes 3/8 inches apart at the center of the disc.

The jig is flexible towards the middle and it is easiest to insert discs there and then slide them to fit.

Removal is also easiest at the middle. Simply push with thumbs to pop discs out of the jig after drilling.

Drilling

Before drilling, pack the discs as tightly as you can as that will help hold them steady and brace each other so you don't get blowout when each disc is punctured.

Don't push the drill bit as far as it can possibly go as any angle you may be introducing with your grip becomes more exaggerated the deeper you go. I found the best success just drilling until I couldn't see the cuting edge of the bit.
