Protective Box for Air Suspension Compressor (Knaus VAN Ti – VW Crafter / MAN Chassis)

This project is a custom-made cover for the air suspension compressor used in Knaus VAN Ti motorhomes based on VW Crafter or MAN vehicles. The purpose of the box is to protect the compressor from external elements – especially water and rain.

The box consists of three main parts: the main housing, a top cover, and a mounting plate.

• The mounting plate is attached to the main housing using M3 screws and nuts.
• To secure the top cover, threaded inserts need to be placed into the housing, allowing it to be screwed on with M3 screws.
• On the sides of the main housing, there are openings for air hoses – one for the air springs and one for the intake. These openings can be fitted with rubber grommets to prevent the hoses from wearing out due to friction.
• The whole box is mounted onto the existing plastic base cover in the vehicle using standard automotive sheet metal screws.
• Additionally, the box includes cutouts for an optional tension strap (ratchet strap). This strap can be used for extra stabilization, although in my example images I did not use a strap, as the installation is already stable without it.

This design helps protect the compressor and ensures long-term durability and performance of the air suspension system.
