Large Sponge Filter for Aquariums or Breeding Tanks.

For completion, you will need 20mm PVC pipe, elbows, and 32mm mesh pipe. Both are readily available at aquarium or pond supply stores.

The filter base can be weighted and, if desired, sealed with a lid. When using ABS (recommended), super glue or Tangit adhesive can be used. I have had good experiences using gravel as a weight and employing the lid. Alternatively, you can adhere weights (stainless steel, lead) to the inside of the base and omit the lid. I then recommend drilling a small hole in the top of the base to allow air to escape easily when placing the filter in the aquarium.

The filter is designed for 30cm and 40cm sponge cartridges with a 10cm diameter. If you require a very large filter, there is a base with two inlets, allowing you to combine multiple filter elements with an airlift drive.

I recommend purchasing the mesh pipes instead of printing them. Purchased pipes are more robust and very inexpensive. However, if you still wish to print the mesh pipes yourself, I have added a profile with two different wall thicknesses: 1mm and 1.5mm (recommended), depending on the desired stability. The mesh pipe can be scaled in diameter in Bambu Studio and is therefore divided into two parts. Depending on the filament used, such adjustments may be necessary. Exercise caution when assembling.

The mesh pipes are 150mm high. For a 30cm filter cartridge, you will need two; for a 40cm cartridge, three mesh pipes.

The filter with the 30cm cartridge is suitable for a 40cm high aquarium.
The filter with the 40cm cartridge is suitable for a 50cm high aquarium.
