Description
Apple Watch iPod Case
I was trying to find something like this, but none of the models I found hit that spot for me. So i took it upon myself to try and model something. First and formost I am not skilled or knowledgeable in this field but gave it a go anyways. I was originally inspired by a model made by Matthew Lin here on makerworld which I'll link below and it was probably my favorite unique design for an Apple Watch. However, after using it for a bit of time, I found myself wanting to hold it in a portrait orientation as it felt more natural and comfortable for me. So I tried reverse engineering it a bit due to not having much knowledge in the space, but it didnt come out very well. After a lot of iterations and failed prints I took the plunge and fully redesigned it from the ground up and it came out much better than I would have thought and I'm very happy with the results. If you've read any of this, thank you lol. If you like this model, let me know! I had a ton of fun with this even though it took way too long. I'm still learning and am curious to see what people think.
Now for the model, obviously, its designed to look like an old iPod, and should fit any apple watch thats 44mm. if youre having issues let me know. It should go without saying, but the click wheel does not function and is purely for aesthetics. Also you will lose functonality of your crown, but it hasn't been much of an issue on normal use really.
I have this setup to be printed with PETG-CF and have had the best results using that. PLA works but I found the finish to be less than desirable. If there's enough interest I can come back and try to change it up a bit so let me know!
You will have to setup your watch for the crown to be on the left side.
When inserting the buttons, make sure the side button bump is towards the top of the case.
When inserting the watch, it will be fairly snug by design so it doesnt move around. I've found after a few removals its not AS tight and should be perfectly fine.
The screen should be pretty much flush with the case so you shouldnt have issues with touching the edges or doing swipe motions.
When inserting the back plate you'll have to bend it into place a bit but I've done it quite a few times and it's held up great. Refer to the last photo for how to do it if you're having trouble.
After the back plate is in just give the corners of your watch a little push and everything should be nice and flush!
There is a lanyard hole for anyone interested in putting it on a keychain or something.
Again if anyone has any issues with this feel free to let me know and be sure to leave a review.
Thanks!
