Description

This is a parametric, customizable cap for socket head bolts (e.g., DIN 912) designed for FDM 3D printing. The cap features a clean, flat 

top with optional top and bottom fillets for a polished look. It includes a hollow insert that fits snugly over the bolt head — perfect for covering bolt heads in visible assemblies, protecting from dust, or achieving a finished look.

You can easily adapt this design to fit bolts of various sizes by adjusting the variables in OpenSCAD.

Parameters Explained:

insert_outer_diametermatch this to the bolt head diameter plus a small tolerance. (s)
insert_inner_diameterInside diameter of the insert (insert thickness = insert_outer_diameter - insert_inner_diameter).
insert_heightHeight of the cylindrical insert. Should match the height of the bolt head. (t)
top_diameterDiameter of the flat cap on top. This can be larger for better coverage or aesthetics. (dk)
top_thicknessThickness of the top cap. 1.5–2 mm works well.
toleranceClearance added to the inner hole to account for printer tolerances. Typically 0.2–0.4 mm.
fillet_heightHeight of the bevel (simulated fillet) on top and bottom edges. Makes edges feel smoother and look cleaner.

  • Recommended Material: PLA, PETG, ABS
  • No Supports Needed
  • Layer Height: 0.2 mm or finer for smoother top
  • Wall Count: 2–3 for strength
  • Infill: 10–20% is sufficient
