Description
Jasenovac Spomenik Desktop Mossarium Diorama
This model is a miniature inspired by the Jasenovac Spomenik, a brutalist monument built in 1966 by sculptor Bogdan Bogdanović in memory of the victims of the Jasenovac concentration camp during World War II, in what was then Yugoslavia.
The monument, known as the “Stone Flower”, rises solemnly in an open field in a poetic contrast of concrete and nature.
This desktop mossarium diorama is meant to evoke that same contrast, blending the stark modernist form of the Spomenik with soft, living moss, creating a contemplative piece of living history for your workspace or home.
How to Make the Mossarium
- Prepare the Base
Add a layer of soil or terrarium mix in the base. Compact it gently and position the Spomenik. - Add Moss
Carefully place patches of fresh moss around the base and around the model, pressing lightly so they make contact with the soil. Use tweezers to shape moss as preferred. - Water Lightly
Mist the moss lightly with a water spray bottle to settle it and maintain humidity. Mantain
Keep your moss moist and in a well-lit (but not direct sunlight) environment. Occasional misting helps it stay green and lush. From time to time cut excessive growth for a relaxing break.
Collecting Moss Responsibly
You can often find beautiful moss in shaded, humid areas such as behind buildings or garden walls, at the base of trees, on shaded stone or concrete surfaces.
🔸 Always harvest small patches and never strip large areas.
🔸 Avoid protected parks or forests unless permitted.
🔸 Place harvested moss in a hermetic container until replanted.
