Description

If you have a rain barrel or tank connected to a downspout, then this overflow pipe is exactly what you need. This pipe allows you to drain excess rainwater without having to drill a hole in your tank. Simply attach this pipe to the edge of your container, connect a hose, and direct the rainwater into a drain or another tank.

Installation:

  1. Submerge the pipe in water and shake/rotate it until all the air is out.
  2. Remove it from the water in a vertical position so that as little water as possible runs out, then attach it to your tank/barrel.
  3. Secure the pipe to your barrel with a clamp. Make sure that the middle section of the pipe is as horizontal as possible.
  4. Connect a hose to the outlet and secure it with a hose clamp. The outlet has an outer diameter of 16.3 mm.

Printing:

  • I have manually added supports to the model where they are needed. Do not activate automatic supports, otherwise supports will also be generated inside the pipe, which cannot be removed!

Please note:

  • If it does not work, there is probably still air in the pipe or the pipe has been installed at an angle -> repeat steps 1 to 3.
  • If the overflow is not used for a long time, water can evaporate, allowing air to enter the pipe. Therefore, I recommend checking whether it still works after a long dry spell or before it starts to rain.
  • The flow rate depends on how high the water level is above the inlet. If the water does not drain quickly enough, make sure that the pipe is as deep in the water as possible.
  • The drain hose must lead downwards. If it is horizontal or leads upwards, the drain will not work.

Theoretically, you can connect two (or more) barrels of the same height with this pipe. To do this, both ends would have to hang in a barrel. However, since this piece has a rather short middle section, this is not very practical. That's why I will soon be uploading another pipe model that is specifically designed for this purpose.

Stay tuned.
