  • This is a prop “Zombrex” autoinjector inspired by the game series Dead Rising. Some liberties are taken for the simplicity of printing and assembly.
  • It is styled after Epipen autoinjectors, following the ‘blue to the sky, orange to the thigh' instruction. IYKYK.
  • You will need 5" lengths of ¾"-SCH40 PVC pipe (you could do longer or shorter to your preference).
  • Important: Some adjustment by the user may be required, as the ¾"-SCH40 PVC pipe controlled tolerances are for outer diameter, while the parts mount to the inner diameter. The schedule 40 pipe specification does not have tight tolerances for concentricity, only for wall thickness.

Printing

  • Print the parts from the profile as oriented.
  • Lower assembly:
    • No supports required - recommend high infill, as this will frequently be impacted during mock usage during cosplay, airsoft scenario games, etc.
    • Note: Depending on the tolerances of your ¾"-SCH40 PVC pipe, you may need to scale the ‘lower retainer’ component.
  • Upper plug: print one of these.
    • Note: Depending on the tolerances of your ¾"-SCH40 PVC pipe, you may need to scale the ‘upper plug’ component.
  • Upper cap (2 versions):
    • The non-retained/removable version can be used on camera or as part of cosplay acting. If you expect to frequently use these, it is recommended to print this in TPU instead of a rigid filament.
    • The retained version attaches via M3 button cap head screw.
  • Zombrex Clip:
    • Optionally, print a pair of these to mount to a shadow box or other object.

Assembly

  • Cut a 5" length of ¾"-SCH40 PVC pipe (longer or shorter if you desire).
  • If you wish to paint the PVC pipe, do so prior to assembly.
  • Place an M3 nylock nut in the ‘lower insert’ component's hexagonal recess. You will likely need the assistance of a clamp, arbor press, or other tool. This is designed to be a very tight press-fit to avoid losing the nut into the body of the autoinjector.
  • Use an M3 x 25mm (or longer) socket cap head screw, with washer, and assemble the lower injector, the lower retainer, and lower insert together.
    • Important: only start the M3 screw threads into the nut, do not fully tighten it. Once you tighten the screw it will cause the lower retainer to expand. Without a PVC pipe wall to press against it will simply crack and break.
  • Insert the assembled lower injector assembly into the PVC pipe, and tighten the screw down to cause the lower retainer to expand into the walls of the ¾"-SCH40 pipe.
  • Glue the upper cap into opposite end of the pipe. Hot glue is recommended if you want a reversible bond.
  • Optional: Slip-fit the cap on if you printed one.
  • Print the label and affix it to the autoinjector.
    • These are intended to be printed on Dymo ‘30323 white shipping labels’ - 2-1/8" x 4".
    • The original .label file from 2017 does not quite import correctly. I have fixed it up and saved it into the modern .dymo label format.
    • A .png version of the label has been included in the zip file for those who do not have Dymo label printers.
