Description

This is my take on Excalibur from the anime Fate/Stay Night. There are a few other solid-looking models out there, but I needed one I can more readily modify for a future project, and I personally like the versions with the more rounded crossguard look.

Some references I used for dimensions/designs and whatnot:

Materials used:

  • Generic silver silk PLA
  • Generic gold silk PLA
  • Bambu dark blue PLA
  • ¼" x ~107cm steel round rod (aluminum would be fine)
  • ¼" dowel rod
  • Desired glue/joining method

I'd recommend printing out a small section of the hilt to test clearances for the metal rod before printing the rest. If a little more clearance is needed, I can add a version with a little more, but I may not be able to get to it right away.

There is an “Alternates” plate with no-cut versions of the Ornament and Crossguard and Blade 2 with the engraving on both sides.

Assembly is fairly straightforward. All pieces are slid onto the metal rod, and additional dowel rod pieces can be used for alignment if desired. The ornament pieces are slid sown the length of the blade from the tip. The inlay pieces, if painting is not preferred, are simply wrapped around the guard and glued into position.

Enjoy!
