  • Perhaps a Gridfinity sin for purists, or perhaps very useful! I found that wire spool holders (https://thangs.com/designer/beakerz/3d-model/Gridfinity%201x4%20Silicon%20Wire%20Base-455781) would simply not sit nicely in a 2x4 or even 3x4 spot due to the spools overhanging the 42mm wide grid.
  • This caddy solves this problem, and makes your wire rack extremely portable! It will provide 14 spool slots and allow it to neatly dock into a 3x4 grid space, but be instantly picked up and moved somewhere else for work before you return it to storage.
  • This also neatly fits within an Akro-Mils 30237 bin with a regular 3x4 baseplate.

Printing and Assembly

  • Print 2 sets of the Gridfinity 1x4 silicon wire bases (https://thangs.com/designer/beakerz/3d-model/Gridfinity%201x4%20Silicon%20Wire%20Base-455781). Alternatively you can print any other Gridfinity items you want to place within this caddy.
  • There are two versions laid out in the profile. Print only the parts for the version that you prefer, and do not use supports.
    • The original M3 heat insert version (deprecated) uses M3x10mm flat head screws. You will likely need to compress the plastic of the handle as it will deform due to the thinner walls. You will also need some form of vise to hold the handle while installing the heat-set inserts vertically. Be careful not to burn yourself.
    • An updated BT2.5x14mm version using self-tapping plastic screws has been provided and is recommended.
  • The handles should not be printed with supports, as support material will clog the holes.
  • Magnets are press-fit if you choose to print the version with magnets.
  • Base plates (magnet or non-magnet versions, and version for heatset inserts or BT2.5x14 screws) should be printed with supports.
