Description

PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH THIS KNIFE. It is NOT a toy.

EDIT:  I HAVE UPDATED THE FILES.  I fixed a safety concern for the design of the knife.  I moved the button to the opposite side, so there is no way of slicing your finger while pulling the blade in and out.  Because of some internal geometry, you will need to print the handle in this position with supports.

I printed mine out of PETG-HF.  PLA would probably be okay as well, but the spring button might be a little stiffer and harder to use.

This video shows the old model.  The new version (updated in the STL and Print profile) has the button on the opposite side of the handle.

so I’m a MASSIVE fan of your original utility blade, I have over 40 of them as I use them as functional filament swatches + they’re by far the best 3d printed utility blade on here. (haven’t tried your folding ones) was absolutely thrilled to see you release another utility knife and even more thrilled to see it using the same blade retention as your original. printed phenomenally well. feels like something you could actually get some work done with and locking it into place has an immensely satisfying click. your designs always feel hefty and strong like actual tools and products instead of featherweight 3d prints. thank you for sharing your designs. polymaker panchroma matte ash gray/polymaker polylite pla lime green bambu lab galaxy pla nebula/polymaker starlight pla white

you’re very welcome! thanks for the fantastic design. that’s a bummer this one didn’t take off, I actually thought it was new but see now it’s a couple months old I left another comment letting you know, but the only profile available for this model is for H2D, I can’t imagine that’s helping things! thanks again (:

I will fix that H2D profile! Thanks for letting me know. Can I use your photos for the model? I like your colors, and looks way better than my photos!

This is a stellar design with a single significant flaw. The blade edge and the compliant locking tab are on the same side of the insert, so if one presses the tab/button and their finger remains pressing into that hole as they remove the blade retention insert, if the user angles the insert, the blade can slice along that hole, where the finger may still be pressed. This is a laceration hazard. Moving the tab to the opposite longitudinal side would resolve this issue. The design and fit is genuinely spectacular, great engineering!

I have fixed the model. I have made the print profile using a P1S, and have also changed the button to the opposite side, making it much safer (but a little harder to print). If you print it again, I'd love to hear what you think! Thanks for the suggestions and comments

Really interesting model, nice design, feels solid, but one concern for me is the press button on top I tend to press it with the palm of my hand when gripping the handle It might depend on hand size I don't know, but it's not functional for me

Yeah I used to have the button on the bottom, which would solve your issue, however then the blade moves past your finger as you press the button....Not quite sure what the solution is here

not sure what happened, but design didn’t work right. seems like the blade is supposed to retract, but doesn’t. and it’s a very tight fit with PLA.

very tight fit. have to pull on it hard which is a little scary when it has a razor in it.
