Many of us (especially when luck runs out) have experienced this: the filament spool suddenly unravels and turns into a messy tangle like the one in the picture. When you try to reassemble it, the spool won't fit anymore because the filament has puffed up and made everything thicker. At that point, you're either forced to waste the whole roll or spend forever untangling it…
This little “Spool Extension Shaft” isn't a perfect solution, but it’s a lazy-friendly lifesaver!
It fits directly into the original Bambu spool hubs on both sides — just insert it like you would a normal spool. No mods needed. It’s designed to be printed without any support structures. A simple 5mm inward brim is added just to improve first-layer adhesion.
Once installed, the total spool width increases by 25mm, creating extra space to “sandwich” the loose filament and hold it in place. The downside: it won’t fit AMS anymore and might add some drag to rolling setups. But in many cases, it can rescue a spool that would otherwise go to waste!
