Description
This is a life-size replica inspired by a well-known tactical gadget, designed as a DIY display piece for fans and makers. I’m not a professional designer, so expect some trial and error—tolerances may vary, and parts might not fit perfectly on the first try. This project is best suited for tinkerers who enjoy fine-tuning and customizing their prints.
Key Features:
- Print-in-place telescoping core: Pull the top pin and the inner core drops out from the bottom. A twist of the middle tube locks the parts together, "arming" the device so the red top pops up when pressed down.
- Manual reset: Pick it up, let the core drop again, twist back, press in, and reinsert the pin to "un-arm."
- Display-only components: Designed to hold AA batteries and wiring (for looks only—non-functional).
- DIY-friendly: Includes features like alignment rails and tension-fitting—some sanding may be needed for smooth action.
Print Notes:
- Each plate may require different print settings (infill, wall loops, line width, etc.). I currently don’t know how to assign separate settings within one 3MF file, so you’ll need to adjust these manually.
- For plates with duplicate parts, I printed by object rather than by layer to reduce stringing and weird layer lines.
- Avoid spray painting—it clogs moving parts and scratches easily. Instead, print in your desired colors directly.
- Alignment is crucial: The core includes a small inner rail that must line up precisely. Sanding may be required for both the outer shell and rail system.
Materials Needed:
- AA batteries (display only)
- Wires and bolts (use what you have on hand)
- Superglue or hot glue
- Electrical tape (for visual accents)
⚠️ TEST FIT EVERYTHING before final assembly.
