Description

This is a modular spur gear set designed for robots, battle bots, and hobby projects. The goal of this project is to provide a customizable, remix-friendly gear set that anyone can use and build on. It includes a range of spur gears in multiple tooth sizes, with both high-strength (HS) and low-strength (LS) versions, as well as some useful extras like inserts and a rack gear for linear motion setups.

The low-strength gears (LS) are thinner, lighter, and designed for simple projects where strength is less important. The high-strength gears (HS) are wider and more durable, better suited for driving mechanisms and high-load applications. I’ve also made inserts so you can convert an HS gear to fit an LS shaft, or use a free-spinning insert to allow a bolt or screw to rotate smoothly without binding the gear.

The rack and pinion parts allow for basic linear motion—perfect for simple lifts, sliding mechanisms, or test rigs.

Parts included in this set:

Low-Strength (LS) Spur Gears:

  • 12 tooth
  • 36 tooth
  • 60 tooth
  • 84 tooth

High-Strength (HS) Spur Gears and Pinions:

  • 12 tooth pinion (HS)
  • 24 tooth
  • 36 tooth
  • 48 tooth
  • 60 tooth
  • 72 tooth
  • 84 tooth

Other Parts:

  • Rack gear for linear motion
  • Inserts for adapting HS gears to LS shafts
  • Free-spinning round inserts for smooth screw joints

Remix-Friendly Design:

This project was designed to be easily remixable. You can:

  • Change the number of teeth to make larger or smaller gears
  • Resize the shaft holes to fit your axles or motors
  • Add mounting holes, keyways, or hubs to suit your project
  • Modify the rack for different lengths or mounting setups

This is a work in progress (WIP) and I’ll be adding more parts and improvements over time. If you remix or upgrade this set, please share your remix. I’d love to see how other people use these gears and what creative projects they come up with.
