Pawsthetics: 3D-Printed Dog Prosthesis

Intended Use: Front limb prosthetic for medium-sized Aspin dogs with above-wrist amputation

🛠️ Materials Needed:
- PETG filament (recommended for strength)
- TPU for paw
- Adjustable straps and buckles
- M5 screws

🧩 Assembly Instructions
Print Settings:
- We printed all parts using PETG at 15% infill. This kept the prosthesis lightweight while maintaining sufficient flexibility.

🛠️ Steps:
Print with PETG, 15% infill, 3–4 wall lines, and at least 4 top/bottom layers.
- Smooth the inner surfaces using light sanding to reduce friction against the dog's skin. 
- Thread the straps through the built-in loops on the socket. Use adjustable velcro or soft elastic for comfort.

However, for longer-term or more active use, we suggest:

Increasing infill to 30–50%,
Or reinforcing high-stress points (e.g., joint connections) with epoxy or bolts.

📏 Sizing Note:
This prosthesis design fits medium-sized dogs with a front-leg stump length of 6–10 cm from the shoulder joint to the amputation site.

📐 The design is fully customizable and can be adjusted to suit different dog sizes or limb lengths.
We recommend taking accurate manual measurements or a 3D scan of your dog’s affected limb and modifying the socket dimensions accordingly for a more secure and comfortable fit.

💡 You can easily scale or reshape the model using common 3D software (e.g., Fusion360, Blender, or TinkerCAD).

⚠️ Warnings & Considerations:
- Regularly check for chafing, swelling, or signs of discomfort.
- Consult a vet or prosthetics expert before giving this to your dog
- Not recommended for full-day use at initial fitting – start with 10–15 min trials.

This design is shared as part of the Pawsthetics Movement — an initiative to create accessible and compassionate prosthetic solutions for Aspin dogs and other animals in need.

We believe in making assistive devices universal and adaptable, so this prosthesis is designed to be customizable and usable for a wide range of dogs with front-limb amputations.

This prosthesis is a finalized design as documented in our thesis and has been successfully tested on a real-life beneficiary dog ("Samar"). It is intended to be a universal, customizable solution for front-limb amputees, particularly among Aspins and similar-sized dogs. However, while the design is proven to work, every dog’s anatomy and movement needs are different. Adjustments may still be necessary for comfort, fit, and daily use. This device is not a medical-grade product, and the creators of Pawsthetics do not assume liability for any injury, discomfort, or misuse.
